May 2023: Summer Sewalong!

by Emma Reed

Get ready to welcome warmer weather and celebrate Me-Made May with patterns that you can use all summer long. We tried to find a pattern for every summer personality, but continue the conversation on the SewPGH Discord with pattern suggestions and discussions in the #sewalong channel.

Farmer’s Market Fashionistas

The Better Homes and Gardens Market tote is for the farmers market lover. With an 11 x 11 base, this tote has plenty of room for all of your finds, from berries to baguettes, this tote will carry all of your best finds from picnics to pontoon boats all summer long.

Keep Cool with CottageCore

If you dream of traipsing through meadows and baking your own artisanal bread, this Milk Maid dress pattern is from you. From Australian indie pattern designer, Rosery Apparel, this pattern builds a dress out of 5 rectangles so it is adjustable to your measurements. The puff sleeves and midi length can bring an air of whimsy to even the most mundane chores.

Ready for the Trails

This fanny pack from bikepacking.com is a great companion for the relaxed rambler or the treacherous trail trekker. With many pieces, this is probably a more advanced pattern but is a great way to try out technical fabrics or to use up smaller pieces of canvas. With zippers and buckles, this pattern is adjustable to every size, and can also be worn as a backpack.

Waiting for the Water

The Cottesloe swimsuit pattern is a versatile pattern that allows for both two-piece and one-piece configurations. If you have ever dreamed about making the perfect fit bikini or a swimsuit with that rare deadstock swimwear sitting in your stash, this is your chance. Available in sizes 0-30, this pattern can be a great introduction to swimwear sewing. More resources: Sewalong Blog
